Thank you for reviewing my educational background. Please get in touch to find out more.
There are thousands of talented pianists trying to build a career for themselves. What sets you apart?
Here are two short stories told by my two dear friends: Suzzane Roberts, wife of Comcast founder Ralph Roberts, “My husband, Ralph, was seriously ill and our family's spirits were at an all-time low. Daily, Jenny would visit. Putting aside her lessons, practice and all of the concerns and challenges faced by a very young woman with remarkable ambition...and she would play. My husband's spirit was fed with her music, and we all felt more alive with each visit. Now whenever we speak of Jenny, our family recalls those times when she gave us the gift of healing with her beautiful talent.” The Tippet Rise founders Cathy and Peter Halstead said to me “Needless to say, they all feel your energy is infectious and your playing sublime. If the world of music had your optimism and joy it really would be an example to society.”
I am born with a compassionate heart. I believe in making a difference in people’s life, if I am not making, I am not living it right.
Biography
Twenty- two year old pianist, Jenny Chen, is the youngest Doctor of Musical Arts candidate and teaching assistant in Eastman school of music.
She was accepted by the Curtis Institute of Music at age ten under the pedagogy of Eleanor Sokoloff and Gary Graffman. She graduated with top honors and was selected as an artist in Dean’s honors recital. Then went on to complete a Master’s degree at Yale School of Music, and studied with Robert Blocker and Melvin Chen. Currently, her mentor is Douglas Humpherys.
Jenny Chen presents a new generation of performers. Her passionate artistry expresses her individuality and sincerity about music. Influenced by her energetic personality, she has been invited to perform at festival including Chamber Music Encounters of Lincoln Center, Tippet Rise Festival, Sejong Music Festival, Mainly Mozart Festival, and Bravo! Vail Festival.
Jenny Chen made her debut with the Philadelphia orchestra at age fourteen, and subsequently the orchestra invited her again. She also performed with Taipei Symphony Orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra, Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic, New York Downtown Sinfonietta, and Pacific Symphony, with conductors such as Rossen Milanov, Neil Varon, Carl Topilow, Stuart Malina, and Carl St. Clair. As a chamber musician, she has collaborated with prestigious musicians such as Arnold Steinhardt, Peter Wiley, and Anne-Marie McDermott.
Jenny Chen’s performances have been broadcasted on live TV and radio from WHYY’s On Stage at Curtis, Classical MPR’s Performance Today, and FOX Rochester. Moreover, her performance was selected to be included in Curtis Institute of music’s released CD. Despite all her successes, the energy and insight of her music has not lost the joy of youth, a contradictory mix where the rigors of virtuosity abet, rather than hinder, the spontaneity, the freshness of her music.
Jenny Chen has received audience’ acclaim appearing in solo and chamber music performances across United States and abroad in venues including Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center, Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall, and Merkin Concert Hall in New York, Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall in Philadelphia, Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in California, Gerald R Ford Amphitheater in Colorado, National Concert Hall in Taiwan, Vredenburg Leidsche Rijn in the Netherlands, and Solti Hall in Hungary.

MY FORMAL RECITAL DEBUT
Age, 11
Aug.7, 2005, Taipei, Taiwan, Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center of Tamkang University
JENNY CHEN’S UPLIFTING VITALITY CREATES A STRONG BOND WITH THE AUDIENCE. SHE INTRODUCES HER PIECE-ABOUT-TO-PLAY IN CONCERT, WITH CREATIVE DESCRIPTION, INTELLECTUAL KNOWLEDGE, EVEN PHYSICAL MOVEMENTS, AND THUS INVITES AUDIENCE TO SHARE SOUL, WHICH BREAKS THE TENSION IN A CONCERT HALL TO AN INTIMATE CONNECTION.
“she is one of the most fierce and masterful virtuosi of our time…, she warmed and won the hearts of all who she embraced with her commentary and blazing virtuosity.”
Christopher O’Riley -Tippet Rise Music Director
